Methods to Receive Information for 2010-2011
Channing ISD has been looking at some other ways to keep in touch with parents and community to help keep everyone informed of what is going on.
We have started updating this web site regularly to help keep you informed. The cafeteria menu is updated weekly and other articles are added as needed. The calendar feature will be updated very shortly. If you have suggestions on what you would like to see added, please let us know.
Perhaps the most convenient method we have is signing up for the school's TXTWIRE account. This allows you to receive text messages from the school announcing upcoming events, information, or cancellations. For example, the school can send out a text to your phone to tell you that progress reports went out or report cards were sent home. We could even use it to announce school cancellations, delays, or early outs. To sign up for this you would need to use your cell phone to text the word "channing" to the number 91011. You should get a response within seconds to say that you are now subscribed to the service. If you have problems with subscribing, please contact Robert McLain at the school and I can add you manually into the computer.
Our ning blog site will be going away very shortly and we have something new coming. The teachers will have their own sites and the students will be able to have their own sites as well. More news about this will be coming during this school year.
Another thing that is coming is the new Parent Portal. What this will allow you to do is to look at your child's grades, attendance, etc. every week, or even every day if you so wanted. You can even set it up where if your child made a grade under a certain number, it will send you an e-mail saying that you need to look at the portal! I can see great potential for this. Instead of having to call the teacher to see how your child is doing, you could log on and see everything. If they had not handed in a paper, made a bad grade, blew a test, skipped a class, you could tell right away.
We hope this will help us to keep you, the parent, informed of what is going on at school.
