District of Innovation Proposal for Channing ISD
Channing ISD is proposing to become a District of Innovation. The District of Innovation concept, passed by the 84th Legislative Session in House Bill 1842, gives traditional independent school districts most of the flexibilities available to Texas’ open-enrollment charter schools.
This plan would allow Channing ISD to have more local control in regards to:
--Beginning Date of School
--Control the number of contracted employee days
--Give more options to the hiring of teachers
--Gives some flexibility in the attendance requirements
The process is now to have this plan posted for 30 days before the board votes upon this at the May board meeting. This will not take TEA approval. For questions or concerns contact the superintendent Robert McLain at 806-235-3432.
