2017-2018 School Calendar Revised July 10th

Channing School Family,

I hope everyone is enjoying summer and getting some rest for another great school year!  It is flying by again and the start of school will be on us before you know it.  I need to let you know about some last-minute changes in the school calendar.

Due to some changes in the state testing calendar, amended in the last week of June by the Texas Education Agency, we have had to change our school calendar for the 2017-2018 school year.  The state decided to move STAAR testing for grades 3-8 back a week.  This would have meant that our students would have had to take STAAR tests during the last week of school and even up to the last day of school.  This was not an acceptable situation.  We have basically had to move everything back one week to compensate for these changes.

The changes for the students are reflected below.

  • The first day of school is now Wednesday, August 23rd.

  • The last day of school is now Friday, May 25th.

  • Graduation will be on Friday, May 25th.

  • Good attendance (no more than 3 absences each semester) AND grades could exempt students from attending the last three days of EACH semester. In other words, December 15th and May 22nd COULD be students last day of school each semester if earned by attendance and grades.

These changes were approved by the Board of Trustees on July 10th, 2017.

If You have any questions or concerns about these changes, please contact Robert McLain at 235-3432.
