Eagle THRIVE Program Coaches Needed

Channing ISD will be implementing a mentor program for the 2018-2019 school year for our Junior High Students in grades 6th-8th.  The program is called Eagle THRIVE and will consist of adult volunteers from our area who would be willing to donate 30 minutes a week to come to school for lunch or breakfast and eat with their "adopted" student.  During this time, we hope that these volunteers would visit with and "coach" their student through some of the issues that they will be facing as adolescents.  This is a perfect opportunity to help our young people avoid some of the pitfalls that we may have experienced, seen or avoided.

It really is as simple as eating with a student for 30 minutes a week and establishing a relationship of trust.  Studies show that the more adults a child has in their lives the better the students will do on grades, life decisions, etc.  If you would be interested in being a "coach" to one of our students, please contact Robert McLain at 235-3432 or robert.mclain@region16.net or just come by and visit with me.  There is an application that I can get for you and there are some small requirements for working with students.

The link below will open a little bit more information about this and I will include a link to the "coaches" application if you are interested as well as a "coaches" interest inventory.  The latter will be used to help match up our students with adults who have similar interests.
